Netflix appears set to lean heavily into the nostalgia surrounding one of baseball's most iconic events. Speaking with Front Office Sports, Netflix Sports personality Elle Duncan said the streaming giant hopes to involve actor Kevin Costner in its coverage of the upcoming MLB Field of Dreams game , pointing to the Oscar-nominated film that inspired the annual event.
"I know that, you know, Netflix always makes a really compelling pitch, so I'm certainly hoping that he'll wanna be a part of it in some kind of way, because he is the face of the Field of Dreams, and I know he's still a really big baseball fan, so hopefully we can get him," she said.

Duncan also explained that Netflix plans to embrace the nostalgia surrounding the Field of Dreams while introducing the tradition to a new generation of viewers.
"I can tell you that, like, we're really gonna lean into the nostalgic part of Field of Dreams, hopefully introducing it to a new audience."
The MLB Field of Dreams game is played near the famous movie site in Dyersville, Iowa, where the 1989 film starring Costner was filmed. In the movie, Costner portrays an Iowa farmer who builds a baseball field after hearing a mysterious voice, eventually attracting the ghosts of legendary baseball players. The film grossed approximately $84.5 million at the worldwide box office and earned three Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture.
Netflix recently acquired the broadcast rights to the showcase after Fox previously televised the event. The streaming service has made major investments in live sports programming, including its Christmas Day NFL broadcasts, which featured Beyoncé's halftime performance during the Baltimore Ravens-Houston Texans game in 2024.

If Costner ultimately joins Netflix's coverage, it would further connect one of baseball's signature regular-season events with the actor whose performance helped turn Field of Dreams into a sports movie classic.
