The Brooklyn Nets (3-2) were unable to put themselves in a position to compete for a championship in the NBA's Las Vegas Summer League, but they still had another game to play on Sunday against the Oklahoma City Thunder (0-5). Brooklyn rested multiple players that had been in the rotation prior to Sunday, but the Nets still took care of business against Oklahoma City .
The Nets beat the Thunder 108-90 thanks to a dominant first quarter in which Brooklyn won the period 37-24 while leading by as many as 21 points in the quarter. John Ukomadu led the way for the Nets with 23 points and nine rebounds while Dion Brown had a triple-double of 16 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists that had the entire team cheering towards the end of the game.
The Thunder, who also rested multiple players, were led by Steven Ashworth and his 22 points and four assists while Jabri Abdur-Rahim had 17 points and three rebounds. Brooklyn now ends the Las Vegas Summer League with a winning record and enough film on certain players that the team can head into the offseason knowing who they will be keeping around.
Here are the Nets player grades following Sunday's win over the Thunder:
Dwight Murray Jr.: C+
Murray is one of the players that saw extra playing time in this game due to multiple players resting for this consolation game, but Murray wasn't able to take advantage of the opportunity. Murray struggled mightily shooting the ball despite getting some good looks and his ball security needs some work moving forward, whatever that means for him and his career.
Hunter Sallis : B-
Sallis did a solid job of scoring the basketball, especially with his aggressiveness to get to the rim and finish with strength when possible. Sallis did most of his work at the rim and that rim pressure is key for guards like him for be efficient, especially since him touching the paint repeatedly would do wonders for his ability to get other players open off of his drives.
Dion Brown: A
Brown had some issues with turnovers and fouls in this one, but that didn't stop him from notching a triple-double as he made his impact throughout the course of the game. Brown did a good job of scoring the ball at all three levels along with his impact on the boards and passing the ball that led to him achieving something special on the last day of the Las Vegas Summer League.
Ben Humrichous: C+
Humrichous did a decent job of spreading the floor for his teammates as he shot 33% from behind the three-point line, but he had the chance to do more with his open looks. Humrichous did a good job of rebounding the basketball and playing solid defense over the course of this blowout and his steady play was one of the key reasons that the Nets were able to finish this game with a win.
Dain Dainja: A
Dainja has been showing glimpses of his ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor and this game was yet another reminder of what he is capable of when he gets more playing time. Dainja was virtually unstoppable around the basket and he also made his presence known on the boards and with his long arms protecting the rim and getting into the passing lanes.
Duke Brennan: B-
Brennan had a solid game as he scored around the basket at an efficient clip while being a force in the paint in rebounding situations, even though it's arguable that he could've imposed his will more often. Wherever Brennan ends up next, he will be able to move forward knowing that he put his best foot forward when it was time for him to play more minutes.
Aaron Scott: A
Scott played well during his limited time on the floor as he was able to get to the basket repeatedly without the Thunder being able to keep him from the basket without doubling him or fouling him. Scott was efficient with his offense and outside of that, he made quite the impact with his defense as he seemingly wouldn't stop stealing the ball from Oklahoma City.
John Ukomadu: A
Ukomadu began this game like he was looking to win MVP for the Nets after the consolation game as he seemingly scored at will and did it primarily using his athleticism. Ukomadu showed his ability to get to the basket at will and he also used his athleticism to be helpful on the glass while also being disruptive on the defensive end of the floor with his length.
