Everton made it back-to-back wins over Newcastle in the space of five days as Thierno Barry 's second-half goal secured a 1-0 victory at St James' Park.
The visitors started brightly and had chances to take the lead before the break, with Barry and Harrison Armstrong both failing to make the most of good opportunities.
Newcastle struggled to create much of their own, although Harvey Barnes provided a threat from the left and Joelinton went close with a couple of efforts from distance.
Everton eventually broke the deadlock four minutes after half-time. Tyrique George found space inside the box before his low effort slipped through Lukas Hornicek , allowing Barry to react quickly and turn the loose ball into an empty net.
Newcastle pushed for an equaliser, with Anthony Elanga coming closest when his effort struck the post after meeting Barnes' cross.
Jordan Pickford was also forced into action late on, producing a strong save with his feet to deny substitute Yoane Wissa .
Newcastle's frustration boiled over in stoppage time when Jacob Ramsey was sent off after picking up two yellow cards in quick succession.
The result gives Everton their first away league win of the season, while Newcastle have now lost four of their last five matches in all competitions.
