The Washington Commanders are facing an uphill battle taking on the Dallas Cowboys without star quarterback Jayden Daniels in the second half on Sunday. They're facing an even tougher uphill battle thanks to the officiating crew.
Washington appeared to tie the game on a touchdown pass from backup quarterback Marcus Mariota to wide receiver Dyami Brown on the first drive of the second half. Brown's catch was initially ruled incomplete, however, after seeing a replay from FOX, it looked like he had control of the ball as his left knee his the ground.
Commanders head coach Dan Quinn promptly threw a challenge flag. The Commanders were assuming that the play would be reversed and they would be granted a touchdown, tying the game with the extra point.
But, somehow, the refs let the call on the field stand. The officiating crew appeared to think that Brown didn't 100 percent have control of the ball before going out of bounds.
NFL fans fed up with 'horrible' officiating crew
"We're in the stadium, we watched it live and 376+ replays of the catch. It was a clear touchdown. Even the cowboys fans surrounding us said it," one fan wrote.
"Cowboys dodged a bullet…ruling on the field stands looked a td with knee down," one fan added.
"I'm very surprised that stood as an incompletion. Many of us in the press box thought that would be ruled a catch, with the knee coming down in bounds. A knee equals two feet. And yet somehow that's incomplete. Needless to say, the Cowboys won't complain," one fan added.
"The NFL won't let the Cowboys start 0-2 will they. Absolutely atrocious officiating against Washington in this game. That was a catch and touchdown," one fan added.
There are controversial calls every week, but that's one that Commanders fans – and players and coaches – are rightfully going to be furious about for a while.
