On Saturday, ESPN's Jeremy Fowler provided an update on where contract extension talks between the Jacksonville Jaguars and wide receiver Parker Washington currently stand.
Washington is currently set to enter the final year of his rookie deal and is scheduled to be a free agent during the 2027 offseason.
"Both sides have been talking about a contract," Fowler said. "This one does have a chance to get done before Week 1. I'm told the player would prefer to get it done and not have this linger into the season. Whereas Jacksonville is comfortable continuing talks during the season if the player wants to engage."
To Fowler's point, we saw last season with the Jakobi Meyers and Cole Van Lanen deals that the Jaguars are more than willing to discuss new deals in season. GM James Gladstone said as much last week as well.
In terms of what an extension for Washington could look like, Fowler did make the comparison to the Cardinals' Michael Wilson, who just signed a three-year, $75 million deal , earning $25 million per year.
As the 2025 season progressed, Washington emerged as a go-to target for Lawrence. Including the postseason, Washington eclipsed the 100-yard receiving mark in three of the Jaguars ' final four games.
In all four contests, he was targeted by Trevor Lawrence at least nine times. Washington is versatile, able to run a variety of routes, and he adds a YAC element to the offense.
This summer, Washington seemed to build upon last season's success, regularly putting together standout performances.
