- NFL insider reveals shocking team that's checking in on Tua Tagovailoa
The Miami Dolphins are making several changes this offseason, including to their quarterback room, as they're expected to move on from Tua Tagovailoa after six seasons together.
Miami's still trying to trade Tagovailoa, but it seems more likely that he'll be cut after the start of the new league year. Until then, some teams are reportedly checking in on Tagovailoa, including another team from the AFC East that could be looking for a starter.
"Then there's Tagovailoa," NFL insider Mike Garafolo said on Wednesday. "He's sort of like Kyler Murray in that, if he gets cut, he's going to be available for potentially the veteran minimum to come in and be a starting-caliber quarterback. Financially, it makes a lot of sense.
"Teams are doing their work on Tua, from my understanding. The Jets amongst them, making some calls to get the fullest sense of who Tua is as a person. The Jets have multiple options when it comes to the quarterback situation, and Tua, I believe, is among those, so let's see if the Jets can keep him in the AFC East."
The 28-year-old quarterback has led the Dolphins to a 44-32 record in his 76 starts, while completing 68% of his passes for 18,166 yards, 120 touchdowns and 59 interceptions over the last six years.
If he's released, Tagovailoa could sign with the Jets and have an opportunity to lead a roster with some solid pieces and play the Dolphins twice a year. Those matchups would be must-watch.
