The 2026 NFL season is only a few weeks in, and notable trades have already happened. The Kansas City Chiefs could be interested in a mid-season trade, and, according to an ESPN article by Jeremy Fowler, it could include backup quarterback Justin Fields.
"More injuries at the position will cause more trade talk. We've already seen six established starters go down through the first three weeks," wrote Fowler. "Kansas City sees QB2 upside with Garrett Nussmeier, so if there are trade inquiries for Justin Fields, perhaps the Chiefs take a look."
The New York Jets traded Fields to the Chiefs last offseason. Fields' 2025 season ended with 7 touchdowns and 1 interception, rushing for 383 yards and 4 touchdowns. He was the No. 11 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and was highly rated by the Chicago Bears out of Ohio State.
He hasn't been needed in any game action this year, but Garrett Nussmeier's preseason play has raised projections for his ability to serve as the backup.
