The Washington Commanders are coming off a much-needed win over the Philadelphia Eagles. They've got another big game this weekend as they attempt to dig themselves out of the NFC East's basement and catch up to the division-leading Giants in a down year. The Los Angeles Rams are coming to town, and they're bringing a freshly-activated Myles Garrett with them. It's been a disappointing 4-4 start for a team that was on a lot of people's predictions to win the Super Bowl.
Washington is 2-4-1 for the season, and this is another critical game for a team that's two games behind in the division. The Rams have been disappointing to preseason expectations, but they are still a good team that opened as 5.5-point road favorites. Matthew Stafford was the NFL's MVP last season, but he's been throwing interceptions at a higher rate this year. Davante Adams is out, but Puka Nacua will be on the field testing a secondary that looked better against the lowly Eagles.
The Washington Commanders will be missing two more weapons on Sunday afternoon with Treylon Burks (foot) and Dyami Brown (calf) ruled out on Friday. There are only two healthy receivers who have caught passes from Jayden Daniels this season in Stefon Diggs and rookie Antonio Williams. Players like Luke McCaffrey, Van Jefferson, and possibly Jaden Bradley could see their number called more this week. TE Chig Okonkwo has been a big factor since returning from injury, and he will be a top-2 receiving option vs the Rams.
The Commanders running backs room continues to change due to injury. Jeremy McNichols returned from IR, but quickly went back on the reserve due to a new foot injury. That led to the Commanders claiming rookie Robert Henry Jr off waivers, a return after the Seahawks did the same a month ago. Rachaad White and Austin Ekeler are the only other healthy backs on the 53-man roster. Washington continues to look for a run game that hasn't materialized this season. Will Ekeler get more snaps this week or can the new blood pump some life into the ground game this week?
This game's 47.5 O/U lines up with our predictions this week, but hopefully the scores are switched and the Commanders pull off the upset. I'm taking the under here, and I think the Commanders won't be able to overcome the injuries this week. Matthew Stafford will have a pick or two, but he'll also target Puka Nacua 14+ times for a big day. The Commanders run game, or lack there of, continues to hold the offense back, and put too much on Jayden Daniels. Look for a big rebound next week in a true make-or-break game for the Commanders.
We've got some prop bets from FanDuel Sportsbook for Week 6's game that will be fun to follow.
