STANFORD, Calif. — The Hurricanes have ruled out running back Jordan Lyle for their season-opening, Friday night game against Stanford (9 p.m., ESPN).
No. 7 Miami added the junior running back to the ACC availability report, listing him as out for the game.
The report does not specify whether Lyle, who was arrested in August following an alleged reckless driving incident where he allegedly fled from a police officer in July , is suspended or injured.
"Same status," UM coach Mario Cristobal said Monday when asked about Lyle's status for the game. "Letting everything run their process."
Lyle is one of four UM players ruled out for the season opener. UM initially ruled out cornerback Ja'Boree Antoine and tight end Luka Gilbert. The Hurricanes added defensive back Dylan Day to the list of players who would miss the game on Wednesday night. Day, a safety, played 120 defensive snaps last year and would likely have been a rotational defensive back on Friday.
Lyle, a Fort Lauderdale native and St. Thomas Aquinas High alumnus, is entering his third season with the Hurricanes. Lyle had a strong freshman season in 2024, rushing for 400 yards with four touchdowns. Last season, he dealt with injuries that limited him to 108 yards and one score on 35 carries.
The Hurricanes did not add anyone else to the availability report before Friday's game.
New offensive line debuts
Miami did not provide a depth chart before its season-opening game against Stanford, so the question of who would get the start on the revamped offensive line remained unanswered up until Miami's opening drive.
The Hurricanes debuted with redshirt junior Samson Okunlola at left tackle, sophomore SJ Alofaituli at left guard, sixth-year senior Ryan Rodriguez at center, sophomore Max Buchanan at right guard and Matthew McCoy at right tackle.
Alumni on the sideline
Some recent Miami alumni made the trip to the Bay Area to watch the Hurricanes start the season.
Defensive linemen Rueben Bain Jr. ( Tampa Bay Buccaneers ) and Akheem Mesidor ( Los Angeles Chargers ) and defensive back Keionte Scott (Buccaneers) were all at Stanford on Friday night for the game.
