Normally, a football grounds crew paints the lines and hashes on the field, but at Winston-Salem State University, they decided to get creative on Saturday before a home football game.
A video surfaced on X of a grounds crew worker spray-painting the hashes at Bowman Gray Stadium by hand without a stencil and using his feet to measure out the distance.
Winston-Salem State University is a historically black college or university, and they play in the CIAA conference in Division II.
AD Eric Burns went to the news to address the mishap, saying, "The field markings at our last home game fell short of WSSU Athletics' standards, and I take responsibility. We've secured additional field preparation support and implemented new checks to ensure this is addressed before our next home game. Our student-athletes and Ram Nation deserve the highest standard, and we are committed to meeting it every time."
Winston-Salem State would go on to lose that game 21-0 to Bowie State University. The Rams are 0-6 and seeking their first win of the season.
Additional field crew help will come for the Rams before their game on Saturday, October 17, when they will host Bluefield State.
