The San Antonio Spurs are just one win away from advancing to their first Western Conference Finals in nine years, currently up 3-2 on the Minnesota Timberwolves after a dominant win in Game 5. Victor Wembanyama was excellent in that game, taking full advantage of his lucky non-suspension from the league by scoring 18 points in the first quarter alone and setting the tone for the blowout victory.

Recently, Wembanyama got some lofty praise from Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks during a stream with Ray.
“Once Wemby gets his first (MVP), you probably won’t see anybody else get one… his numbers are going to go up every year… He’s insane,” said Brooks, per SlatDontMiss on X, formerly Twitter.
Wembanyama has indeed already established himself as a legit MVP candidate in his third year in the league, already far and away the best defensive player in the league, and a force to be reckoned with on the other end as well.
While the star’s three-ball has been a bit streaky in these playoffs, including an 0-8 outing in Game 1 against the Timberwolves, Wembanyama is virtually unstoppable when he catches the ball anywhere near the basket, and also has the handles and agility to run fast breaks by himself and create shots from the perimeter.

Wembanyama has gotten some support from his Spurs teammates in this series, including rookie Dylan Harper , who has had a wildly impressive first playoff run and more than justified San Antonio ’s selection of him at number two overall this past NBA Draft.
The Spurs will have a chance to punch their ticket to the Western Conference Finals for a date with the Oklahoma City Thunder when Game 6 of the Timberwolves series gets underway on Friday evening from Minnesota.
