- Notre Dame 2026 Player Profile: Offensive Lineman Guerby Lambert
Despite earning Freshman All-America honors, redshirt sophomore right tackle Guerby Lambertseems to be flying under the radar a bit heading into the 2026 season. I don't expect that to last, as Lambert has a chance to become a dominant force for the Fighting Irish offensive line. After starting 12 games at right guard last season, Lambert is now back to his more natural right tackle spot, and he's poised for a big season.
Let's continue our preseason profile breakdowns with a look at Lambert.
Class/Eligibility: Junior / Sophomore
Height/Weight: 6-7, 325
Hometown/High School: Boston, Mass./Catholic Memorial
2025: 12 starts - 684 snaps - 10 pressures allowed, 1 sack (PFF)
2024: 0 starts - 53 snaps - 1 pressure allowed, 0 sacks (PFF)
CAREER: 12 starts - 737 snaps - 11 pressures allowed, 1 sack (PFF)
After Charles Jagusahwent down in the offseason with a season-ending elbow injury, the Irish coaches decided to move Lambert inside to guard in an attempt to get the best five players on the field. Lambert beat out Sullivan Absherfor the starting role and he had a strong first season in the lineup. It took him a little bit of time, as Lambert was clearly adapting to playing inside early in the season, but it didn't take long at all for him to get comfortable. There were times last season when Lambert was the most dominant run blocker on the roster, and he was a solid pass blocker for most of the season. Consistency was his issue, which is expected from a first-year starter, but down the stretch he was more steady, and more dominant.
Lambert didn't look to have any ill-effects from moving to guard and looked quite comfortable at tackle during the spring. He'll need to continue building on that in fall camp, especially in pass protection. That was the one area in the spring where Lambert's footwork would occasionally get him in trouble. Fall camp will be about cleaning up his footwork a bit, becoming more technically proficient and allowing his immense talent to take over on a more consistent basis. Lambert has a chance to emerge as Notre Dame's best blocker this season, and I want to see him start to show that far more frequently in fall camp.
Lambert is expected to become one of the top tackles in the country, at least that's what I expect him to become this season. As I stated above, he's being a bit overlooked coming into the season, but I don't expect that to last very long. Lambert is a massive young blocker, and he has the power to match. When he drives his legs through contact he absolutely blows defenders off the ball, especially in the zone game. There were so many snaps last season where Lambert was a couple of yards further downfield than his teammates when they were all engaged, that's how dominant he was in the run game, at least physically.
The key for him in year two as a starter is cleaning up his footwork and showing greater comfort with his assignments. You could tell when he was thinking too much last season, but I expect him to work past that now that he has 12 starts and almost 700 snaps under his belt. If Lambert plays with technical proficiency this season I expect him to be a dominant blocker. He's massive, he's extremely long, he's a nimble athlete and he can change direction with ease, which is key for handling edge pressures. He can handle speed, he can handle power and he can deliver punishing.
I fully expect Lambert to finish the season with people talking about him as one of the best blocking right tackles in the country.
One in which he uses the experience he gained last season to become a more consistent and steady blocker, and one in which his transition back to right tackle is a smooth one. It's that simple for Lambert, it really is. His talent is immense, and when he's sound technically and with his assignments he's a force. That means he just has to use his experience gained last season to be a guy that can do his job physically and mentally at a high level snap after that. If that happens he could emerge as the team's best blocker, and he'll emerge as an All-American candidate. His potential and talent is that good.
