Navy attempted to unleash its running attack and the service academy had a 13-7 lead late in the first half over head coach Marcus Freeman 's team. However, Nolan James scored the first of his two touchdowns when he exploded for a 52-yard touchdown run with just 55 seconds remaining before halftime.
That touchdown gave Notre Dame a 14-13 lead as the Fighting Irish went into the locker room. It gave the offense renewed confidence and there was no hesitation in the second half. Notre Dame scored a pair of rushing touchdowns in the third quarter and Notre Dame was never threatened after that.
