Unfortunately, it wasn't the best end of spring for Notre Dame football 's former 5-star safety Joey O'Brien .
The talented defender was lost early during the Blue & Gold game, later seen on the sidelines using crutches to get around. The coaching staff didn't mention anything about his injury following the game, but through his Instagram, he gave an update on his health and it doesn't look good.
While he didn't specify what the injury was, he has a cast on his left leg below the knee, most likely indicating that it was his ankle. Without anymore information, it's hard to say how long O'Brien will be able to be with the team on the field, as this might slow down him getting on the field during his first season.
There could be a redshirt year on tap for him, as he still can play in up to four games without losing it, and if the Irish make the College Football Playoff, he'd be able to play in each of those without burning the redshirt. We hope that it's a quick recovery for O'Brien, as the former No. 27 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite starts his comeback from the injury.
