The Denver Nuggets are trying to find some under-the-radar players after having very little money to spend this offseason. They have signed a couple of young players who could be valuable contributors throughout the season.
The Nuggets also tried to give a veteran an opportunity to revive his NBA career. Lonnie Walker IV agreed to a deal with Denver.
"Reported in late June that Lonnie Walker IV was seeking a return to the NBA and now he has it on a one-year deal in Denver. Walker's pact with Maccabi Tel Aviv had a July 15th NBA out deadline but he was granted an exit even though Denver's offer did not surface until August," The Stein Line's Marc Stein wrote.
The deal was finalized at the beginning of September, giving Walker an opportunity to take another shot at the NBA.
"Lonnie Walker has officially signed his contract with the Denver Nuggets. It's a non-guaranteed camp deal for Walker, a league source told Spotrac," Spotrac's Keith Smith wrote.
Denver is simply trying to find affordable players who can help the roster. On Monday, it was announced that Walker was being waived. The Stein Line's Marc Stein reported that Walker will now look to join another team overseas.
"Lonnie Walker IV had a non-guaranteed contract in Denver and earlier today it was announced that he has hired Misko Raznatovic as his new agent … with Raznatovic now expected to try to find Walker a job abroad," Stein posted.
Walker wanted another chance to play in the NBA, but things didn't go as planned, and he will look to continue his career elsewhere. The former Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs guard was hoping to return to the NBA and recapture his previous form.
However, Denver has decided to move forward without him. The Nuggets already have a guard-heavy roster, so it may have been difficult for Walker to earn a spot unless he made a particularly strong impression during camp.
