- Nuggets Waive Lonnie Walker IV; Is He Due For A Move Overseas?

The Denver Nuggets ' salary cap crunch limited the kinds of moves they could make in the offseason. Despite this, Denver managed to make some intriguing signings. Among these, the addition of Lonnie Walker IV showed promise .
Lonnie Walker IV positioned himself as someone who could be a solid contributor off the bench. Aside from being a reliable scorer in isolation situations, Walker's athleticism and consistent three-point shooting added overall value to the Nuggets' offense.
While there was a lot to like about Lonnie Walker IV's signing, in an unfortunate turn of events, the guard's time with the Nuggets has been cut short. According to HoopsHype's Michael Scotto , the Nuggets have waived Walker, taking the first step toward finalizing their opening night roster.
It is worth noting that he was on an Exhibit 9 deal with the Nuggets, emphasizing that he wasn't guaranteed a roster spot. Needless to say, this hinted at uncertainty. However, DeMar DeRozan's signing in free agency may have made Walker redundant in the rotation.
For all intents and purposes, the 27-year-old presented the potential to be a solid bench player. With career averages of 9.9 points, 2.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 0.5 steals per game on 42.2% shooting from the field and 35.6% from three-point range, Walker was a consummate role player. Unfortunately, when noting that he only appeared in two preseason games for the Nuggets, posting a total of four points in 17 minutes of action (combined), he didn't necessarily assert himself.
After being waived by the Denver Nuggets, Lonnie Walker IV will essentially emerge as another solid piece on the free agent market. In theory, there are several teams that could benefit from adding a player like him. To that end, teams such as the Orlando Magic and the Los Angeles Clippers could benefit from displaying an interest in him. Realistically, however, Walker may be gearing up for a different move.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein , Walker recently hired Misko Raznatovic as his agent. While this could imply many things, Stein speculated that this could hint at a return to Europe, as he wrote:
"Lonnie Walker IV had a non-guaranteed contract in Denver, and earlier today it was announced that he has hired Misko Raznatovic as his new agent… with Raznatovic now expected to try to find Walker a job abroad."
Misko Raznatovic confirmed this piece of information on his social media when he tweeted :
"Lonnie Terrence Walker IV is our new client! He has shined the last 2 years in Europe, playing for Zalgiris and Maccabi, while he is currently at the Denver Nuggets' training camp!"
Misko Raznatovic's list of clients features some big-ticket names, including Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic and Miami Heat forward Nikola Jovic . When noting that he also represents the Nuggets' offseason addition, Alpha Diallo, Walker's decision to join Beo Basket's client list makes more sense.
Before he attempted to make his NBA comeback this year, Walker spent two seasons playing in the EuroLeague, representing Zalgiris (2024-25) and Maccabi Tel Aviv (2025-26). Having thrived as a starter with Maccabi last season, averaging 15.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 0.9 steals per game on 42.5% shooting from the field and 36.5% shooting from three-point range, there is reason to believe that the 27-year-old could find himself embracing a similar role soon.
In many ways, moving overseas is becoming a common move for NBA players . With the second apron weighing down on many teams and limiting them from making offers to free agents, seeking better opportunities in different leagues presents more promise.
