The New York Giants released Odell Beckham Jr. after just a few games, hoping Braxton Berrios could replace him.
However, Berrios, who was signed to the Giants' practice squad after Beckham was released, is now set to undergo season-ending surgery.
This leaves the Giants light on depth at the WR position, especially after releasing Beckham. And fans are concerned the franchise may have made a mistake.
Against the Arizona Cardinals, New York Giants WR Braxton Berrios suffered a foot injury that forced him out of the game early on.
The injury appears to be worse than initially thought, as Berrios has undergone season-ending foot surgery to address the issue.
Understandably, Giants fans and NFL fans as a whole pointed out how much this decision looks even worse in the aftermath of the franchise releasing Odell Beckham Jr.
One fan simply wrote, "Giants should've treated my boy right," while another fan added, "So they cut Odell for nothing."
A third fan pointed to the timeline of the situation to highlight the comedy of errors, noting, "They cut OBJ, signed Berrios, and now Berrios is done for the season. Great work, guys."
"Giants have a plague with injuries this season that I've never seen before. Oh my days," wrote a fourth fan, pointing to the other high-profile injuries to players like Jaxson Dart along with Berrios.
A fifth fan suggested the Giants might reach out to Beckham Jr., noting, "That call to OBJ gonna be so awkward."
"They let go of OBJ for this guy, and he gets hurt on the first start? WTH is going on in the NFL? I know OBJ is thinking what I'm thinking," joked a sixth fan, trying to suggest Beckham Jr. was happy with this situation.
And lastly, one fan shut down any notion of Beckham Jr. being brought back, saying, "Peeps saying sign OBJ. Dude is old and washed. You don't win games by aura farming."
Even with this injury to Berrios, it is highly unlikely that the Giants will bring back Odell Beckham Jr., given that the release seemed to cause a permanent rift in their relationship.
