SC Paderborn have officially completed the signing of TSG Hoffenheim attacking prospect Deniz Zeitler on a season-long loan, making the 19-year-old the third player to move from Sinsheim to the Bundesliga newcomers this summer. Zeitler follows goalkeeper Nahuel Noll and midfielder Luka Duric from Hoffenheim to East Westphalia.
Paderborn's recruitment of promising young players may not be finished either, with Bayer Leverkusen winger Farid Alfa-Ruprecht now emerging as another potential loan target.
Zeitler arrives after an outstanding season with Hoffenheim II. The Ingolstadt native featured in all 38 of the reserve side's 3. Liga fixtures and scored 15 goals. His performances also earned him regular opportunities to train with Hoffenheim's Bundesliga squad. The versatile attacker is expected to feature primarily from the left flank in Paderborn.
"Deniz is a highly talented player who has already demonstrated his qualities in the 3. Liga over the past few years," Paderborn sporting director Sebastian Lange said. "He is technically skilled, strong in direct duels, has an excellent drive towards goal, and the absolute desire to continually develop."
"The most important thing for the development of young players is regular playing time at the highest possible level," TSG sporting director Paul Pajduch said. "After an outstanding year in the 3. Liga, Deniz is ready for the next step in his development."
Another highly-rated German youth international could soon join Zeitler. Kicker reports that Paderborn have targeted Bayer Leverkusen winger Farid Alfa-Ruprecht. Bild has independently confirmed the interest and reports that discussions between the two Bundesliga clubs are already underway. A season-long loan is under consideration.
Alfa-Ruprecht spent last season on loan with VfL Bochum, making 29 competitive appearances and registering seven scorer points. The 20-year-old primarily operates on the right wing but can also play from the opposite flank.
His immediate prospects for regular minutes at Leverkusen under new head coach Carles Martinez appear considerably less encouraging than the opportunities Paderborn could provide.
A further loan would continue the development plan Leverkusen established after signing Alfa-Ruprecht from Manchester City last summer. Get German Football News covered Alfa-Ruprecht's permanent move to Leverkusen after the Werkself negotiated a deal featuring a substantial resale clause for the Premier League club.
The Hamburg native was initially given an opportunity to earn a first-team role during Leverkusen's preseason preparations. Competition in attack ultimately proved too fierce. GGFN subsequently covered Alfa-Ruprecht's season-long move to Bochum , where the winger received the regular professional playing time Leverkusen wanted for him.
He remains under contract with the Werkself through 2030.
