USMNT fans have reacted to Mauricio Pochettino naming Tyler Adams as the new captain for the 2030 World Cup cycle, with many supporters backing the midfielder to lead the team.
Adams takes over from Tim Ream, who retired from international football after captaining the United States at this summer's World Cup. The 27-year-old has previously worn the armband, including at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Pochettino announced the decision ahead of Saturday's rivalry clash with Mexico, praising Adams' character and leadership qualities. The Bournemouth midfielder had already captained the USMNT in the recent 4-1 win over Peru.

Pochettino called Adams a "perfect role model" and said he was the player and person capable of leading the United States through the next phase.
Adams, meanwhile, insisted the armband would not change how he approaches his role. The announcement sparked plenty of reaction online, with several supporters celebrating the decision.
"The real Captain America. Great choice," a fan wrote. While another added, "Oh captain, my captain."
One fan highlighted Adams' previous experience and leadership, writing: "I love this choice. Tyler Adams has always played with the kind of intensity and responsibility I want from a captain. He's already worn the armband at a World Cup, and now at 27 he's entering the stage of his career where he can help lead the next generation of this team. Pochettino got this one right."
Another supporter simply wrote: "No better choice than Tyler! The guy is a beast of a midfielder"
Not everyone agreed, though. One fan joked: "Should've picked Diego Luna for the grit…LOL" Another admitted: "I disagree with this but support the team so whatever…😢"
There were also plenty of messages backing Adams, including: "Congratulations Captain America !!!" and "Bro's been the real Captain America the entire time if we're being honest".
One supporter also took a shot at another USMNT star, writing: "Pulisic ain't got what it takes to be a leader."
Adams' first match as the newly appointed captain comes against Mexico, with the United States also scheduled to face Canada on Tuesday as the new World Cup cycle gets underway.
