Ohio State wide receiver Bryson Rodgers plans to put his name in the NCAA transfer portal when it opens next month.
Rodgers confirmed his intentions to leave the Buckeyes in a post on Instagram on Dec. 18.
It marked the first announcement by any of Ohio State's players who are eligible to enter the portal during the single offseason window running from Jan. 2-16. If the Buckeyes again make the College Football Playoff final on Jan. 19, they would also have five additional days following the game to file paperwork for entry.
Rodgers would leave the Buckeyes after three seasons in which he caught 11 passes for 125 yards and one touchdown as a backup slot receiver. He redshirted as a freshman in 2023, leaving him with two years of eligibility left.
He previously entered the portal after his first year with the Buckeyes before withdrawing from the portal to remain in 2024 .
The decision by Rodgers follows the move from offensive coordinator Brian Hartline , who has coached the wide receivers throughout Rodgers' time at Ohio State. Hartline accepted the head-coaching job at South Florida earlier this month, though is remaining with the Buckeyes through the postseason.
It was not immediately known whether Rodgers would stay with the Buckeyes for the playoff, which begins with a quarterfinal against either Miami or Texas A&M on Dec. 31.
