The Edmonton Oilers announced troubling injury news before the start of training camp. Four players, including free agent signing Frederik Andersen , would miss training camp this season. All four players are dealing with various injuries and are unable to take the ice before the regular season.
It's certainly a concerning development, especially for a player like Andersen. He has struggled to stay healthy in the past. And he even left the Stanley Cup Final back in June with an injury in Game 3 while with the Carolina Hurricanes . However, Oilers general manager Stan Bowman is not panicking right now .
"We're not worried about this," he said last week, via Sportsnet. "This is part of the sport, and we'll work our way through it. And there's an opportunity, probably, for someone else to get a better look than they may otherwise would have."

The most notable players included in the list are Andersen and forward Matt Savoie . Andersen figures to be Edmonton's starting goaltender once he's ready to take the ice. Savoie, a younger player, is looking to carve out a full-time role in the NHL for a second straight campaign.
"Matt's going to miss less time than Freddie. Also, Freddie's older. So we're probably not going to be pushing the envelope, trying to probably give him enough time," Bowman said. "Matt, I don't want to put a timeline on it, but it's not like he's going to miss half a season or anything like that. It's going to be much less than that. Probably around the training camp, we'll have a better timeline on things."
The Oilers certainly want these players back on the ice as soon as possible. For now, it appears they won't miss significant time with whatever injuries they are working through. Edmonton begins its 2026-27 campaign on September 29 against the Vancouver Canucks .
