The Pittsburgh Steelers ' long-term plan to rebuild from the inside out is paying off, as general manager Omar Khan and assistant general manager Andy Weidl see their vision for line-of-scrimmage dominance take shape. By prioritizing physical, highly athletic talent across both fronts, the organization is actively reshaping its identity around a dominant interior core reminiscent of recent championship contenders.
Analyzing the team's growth on the " Locked on Steelers " podcast, host Christopher Carter highlighted how this multi-year blueprint mirrors the Philadelphia Eagles ' philosophy of building a powerhouse through the trenches. Carter questioned whether this developing roster could carry Pittsburgh long term.
"The vision that this organization has had for the past few years to rebuild the trenches, is it finally coming together? And could this developed version of the Steelers turn into a core that carried the Eagles through the era that they just got done riding where they won a Super Bowl and went to another by building up those trenches," asked Carter.
That blueprint was on full display in the Steelers' recent performance, where the young core consistently controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. Guest and fellow analyst Alan Saunders emphasized that the foundation is no longer relying solely on veteran leadership, pointing to the rapid maturation of rising stars.
"You're encouraged by the way they've been playing, boy, Keeanu Benton's playing well," Saunders said. "It is a really deep defensive line and obviously Cam Heyward is still making a big impact, but it is largely the young guys that are driving the boat on both sides of the ball right now, and I think that's a really good thing."
With interior anchors like center Zach Frazier and defensive lineman Yahya Black taking noticeable leaps, Pittsburgh's physical identity is firmly established. Khan's multi-year investment in the trenches has provided a sustainable, game-controlling foundation built to win physically in any environment.
