The biggest domino of the Oregon Ducks' offseason just fell. Junior guard Jackson Shelstad is preparing to enter the transfer portal, according to On3's Joe Tipton.
Shelstad missed the majority of the 2025-26 season after suffering a hand injury in the preseason that lingered as the season went on, ultimately leading the Ducks to shut him down. In 12 games, Shelstad averaged 15.6 points, 4.9 assists and 2.9 rebounds for the Ducks.
Oregon fans held their collective breath after forward Kwame Evans Jr. announced his intentions to enter the transfer portal on Monday, hoping to keep Shelstad around for one more season. Instead, the West Linn product, who drew many comparisons to former Oregon star Payton Pritchard, is choosing to leave the Ducks behind.
Shelstad's decision to leave the program completes the demolition of the lucrative 2023 recruiting class that coach Dana Altman secured. Mookie Cook and Jadrian "Bam" Tracey already entered the portal and played last season with different teams. Evans and Shelstad were integral parts of Oregon's roster for the past three seasons, which included a pair of trips to the NCAA tournament with exits in the Round of 32.
Altman's inability to bring back two of his best returning players after a 12-20 record this season could signal problems for the future of the program. It was by far the worst season in Altman's 16-year run in Eugene, and the first time his Ducks failed to reach 20 wins in a season.
Shelstad received third-team All-Big Ten honors in the 2024-25 season and was a Pac-12 All-Freshman team member in the 2023-24 season. He will immediately become one of the top players and scorers available in the portal. Before choosing the Ducks in 2023, the former Oregon Gatorade Player of the Year also considered Gonzaga and UCLA as a four-star recruit.
