The Baltimore Orioles head into the All-Star Break at 46-51, two games out of the final American League Wild Card spot. After a disappointing year last year, they have not been able to find the right gear in 2026. Orioles star Pete Alonso gave his team a rousing speech after Sunday's loss in the wake of Blaze Alexander 's injury.
"We've got to rise to the occasion. Especially now, doubly rise to the occasion because being down with Blaze, that's really frustrating. We've got to pick him up. We've got to pick him up, and we have to play our best baseball and then some in the second half," Alonso said, per Andy Kafka of Diamondback Sports.
Alexander suffered a left-hand fracture when he was hit by a pitch on Sunday by Kansas City Royals reliever Lucas Erceg . The benches emptied, and Alexander was pulled from the game.

This season, Alexander has been incredible. He had a .791 OPS entering Sunday's game while playing six different defensive positions. Now, he has a broken hand and could be out for a long time. The Orioles need all the help they can get in the second half, and Alexander was a key piece of the season.
The Orioles also lost Ryan Helsley to the injured list recently , taking a big piece out of their bullpen. With just a few weeks until the trade deadline, Baltimore needs to figure out whether they are a buyer or a seller. These injuries certainly point them in the direction of selling, but maybe they'll buy some replacements for the newly injured players.
The Orioles come out of the All-Star Break with a road trip against the Houston Astros and the Boston Red Sox . A bad week coming out of the break could spell the end of the road for the Birds.
