He's officially back in the mix in the Baltimore Orioles ' major league bullpen.
On Friday, the team announced that they have re-signed right-handed pitcher Albert Suarez to a MLB deal.
As a corresponding move to make room on the 40-man roster, starter Dean Kremer (quad strain) was moved to the 60-day injured list. Right-handed pitcher Cameron Weston was also optioned to Triple-A Norfolk to create space on the 26-man roster for Suarez.
Suarez has been solid as a reliever for the Orioles in limited action this season. The right-handed long reliever has made seven appearances, pitched 19.2 innings and produced a 2.75 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP, 10 strikeouts and one save.
The Orioles initially re-signed Suarez to a minor league deal back in December. He was added to the major league roster on April 1 after starter Zach Eflin (Tommy John surgery) went down with injury. Suarez posted a 3.46 ERA in five appearances and 13 innings before getting designated for assignment on April 26. He cleared waivers and elected free agency, but the Orioles brought him back on April 30 on another minor league deal.
Baltimore selected Suarez on May 1, however, they designated him for assignment the next day. After clearing waivers, the Orioles sent Suarez to Triple-A Norfolk and recalled him on May 19.
Although Suarez elected free agency on May 27, the Orioles re-signed Suarez for the third time in less than a year.
He will now likely get some runway to contribute to the Orioles' bullpen in the near future. The right-hander has some versatility given his ability to give the Orioles length out of the 'pen.
Last season, Suarez pitched just 11.2 innings due to right shoulder inflammation and right elbow discomfort.
In 2024, Suarez went 9-7 with a 3.70 ERA in 32 appearances and 24 starts for the Orioles.
The Orioles enter play on Friday with a 26-31 record and in fourth place in the American League East division.
