Things are beginning to get bad on the New Orleans Saints injury front. It's always good to stay positive, and with the Saints having good vibes all offseason, it's easy to do that, but the team is beginning to deal with way too many injuries. Just yesterday, it was announced that Julian Blackmon , the current starting safety, and Dillon Radunz , the Saints' best depth on the offensive line, went down with injuries.
At the time, nobody knew the severity of the injuries, but the fact that they were reported as knee issues was worrying. A knee injury could be just a small tweak that will allow the player to come back after a day, or it could be season-ending and career-changing. Well, Saints fans' hopes did not come true, and it has turned out to be the worst-case scenario. Radunz is now set to be out for the entire season.
This is the second time this offseason that the Saints have faced a season-ending injury, with Bryan Bresee going down recently. Bresee was a starter, so his absence is going to be felt a bit more, but that should not diminish what the Saints are going to lose with Radunz being injured. He is the team's main backup offensive lineman who can play throughout the interior. With the Saints also having a bad history with injuries on the interior, especially from Erik McCoy and Cesar Ruiz , Radunz had a good chance to start some games, but that's no longer going to happen. Now, young players likeTorricelli Simpkins and Jeremiah Wright will need to step up.
Unfortunately, the Radunz injury is not the only bad news. Another area where the Saints can not really lose their depth is at edge rusher, and this is where the second injury occurred. Today, it was announced that Cam Jordan , who just signed a contract to be here for one more year, is out with a hamstring injury.
As of now, the severity of this injury is unknown, but it doesn't look great. Hamstring injuries could become very annoying for players throughout the season, and although there is no doubt Jordan will play through anything, this injury will affect his final year. The Saints must be very careful with this injury and need to be very cautious with rushing Jordan back. Hopefully, Jordan can be ready for the season, but he may have to miss some games.
