(Action Plus)
Newcastle United returned to winning ways in emphatic fashion on Sunday afternoon, securing a much-needed 2-0 Premier League victory over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park thanks to second-half goals from William Osula and Harvey Barnes.
After a difficult spell of results, Matthias Jaissle's side travelled to South London under pressure to deliver a response, having suffered consecutive defeats that raised questions about their form and tactical approach. What followed was a game of two halves, with Newcastle struggling to impose themselves before the break but producing a clinical and disciplined performance after the restart to claim all three points.

The victory lifts the Magpies to seventh in the Premier League table and provides Jaissle with a significant boost ahead of the club's upcoming fixtures.
A frustrating first half for Newcastle
Newcastle made five changes to their starting line-up, with Dan Burn, Fabian Schär, Amar Dedić, Jacob Murphy and Osula all coming into the side.
However, it was Crystal Palace who started the brighter of the two teams, immediately looking to exploit Newcastle's defensive vulnerabilities.
Jean-Philippe Mateta threatened early on, forcing goalkeeper Lukáš Horníček into action with a close-range effort. The Palace striker continued to cause problems, while Daichi Kamada dragged an opportunity wide after the hosts worked the ball into a dangerous position.

Newcastle struggled to establish themselves offensively during the opening stages, with Palace creating several opportunities and enjoying periods of pressure around the visitors' penalty area.
The Magpies lacked the attacking fluency required to trouble Walter Benítez, while Harvey Barnes saw a couple of efforts blocked by the Palace defence.
Horníček proved an important figure, remaining alert to Palace's attacking threat and ensuring Newcastle went into the interval with the scores level.
Although the visitors had survived a difficult opening 45 minutes, a significant improvement was required if they were to leave Selhurst Park with a positive result.

Osula breaks the deadlock
Newcastle emerged for the second half with renewed purpose, and it took barely two minutes for the breakthrough to arrive.
Jacob Murphy produced an excellent cross from the right-hand side, delivering the ball into a dangerous area for Osula to attack.
The Danish forward timed his movement perfectly, arriving at the near post to turn the delivery past Benítez and send the travelling Newcastle supporters into celebration.
It was a crucial moment for both player and manager, with Osula taking his opportunity after being handed a starting role. His movement and clinical finish provided Newcastle with the early second-half breakthrough they desperately needed.

The goal transformed the contest, with the visitors suddenly playing with greater confidence and intensity.
Newcastle thought they had doubled their advantage shortly afterwards when Joelinton played an excellent through ball into Joe Willock's path. The midfielder finished superbly across Benítez, but a VAR review ruled the effort out for a marginal offside.
Rather than allowing the decision to derail their momentum, Newcastle continued to push forward, determined to capitalise on their improved performance.
Barnes doubles the advantage
The Magpies' second goal arrived in the 58th minute, rewarding their outstanding start to the second half.

Nico González helped initiate the move, finding Dedić in space on the right. The full-back advanced before delivering an inviting cutback into the penalty area, where Barnes was perfectly positioned to finish.
The winger made no mistake, sweeping the ball home to double Newcastle's lead and put the visitors firmly in control.
It was another impressive attacking move, highlighting the importance of Newcastle's wide players in creating opportunities. Murphy had supplied the first goal, while Dedić provided the decisive assist for the second.
For Barnes, the strike continued his impressive contribution in front of goal, demonstrating the clinical finishing that Newcastle had lacked during the opening period.

At 2-0, the Magpies had given themselves a commanding advantage and could begin to manage the remainder of the contest.
Newcastle show defensive resilience
Crystal Palace attempted to respond, searching for a route back into the game, but Newcastle defended with greater organisation and
Horníček remained an important presence between the posts, producing a strong save to deny Adam Wharton before reacting again to keep out a dangerous long-range effort from substitute Darío Osorio.
The goalkeeper's contribution was particularly valuable after Newcastle had struggled defensively in recent matches.

Jaissle also introduced fresh legs, with Jacob Ramsey, Anthony Elanga, Yoane Wissa and Sean Steur among those brought on as the visitors looked to maintain their advantage.
Ramsey and Elanga's returns to action provided further encouragement, while Newcastle's defensive unit remained composed as Palace attempted to apply late pressure.
The visitors successfully negotiated the closing stages to secure a clean sheet and a valuable away victory.
A huge result for Jaissle and Newcastle
This was more than just three points for Newcastle United .
Following a difficult run of results, the Magpies needed a response, and their second-half display provided evidence that they can still produce the attacking quality and defensive resilience required to compete in the Premier League.

Osula's opener demonstrated his ability to make an impact when given an opportunity, while Barnes once again showed his importance as a goal threat. Murphy and Dedić also deserve considerable credit for their contributions to both goals.
Horníček's performance was equally significant, particularly given Palace's first-half opportunities.
There will undoubtedly be lessons to take from a disappointing opening period, but Newcastle's ability to regroup at half-time and deliver a decisive response will please Jaissle.
The result also increases the pressure on Palace head coach Pierre Sage, whose side struggled to recover after conceding twice in the opening stages of the second half.

For Newcastle, however, the focus will be on building momentum and ensuring this performance becomes a turning point rather than an isolated success.
The Magpies return from Selhurst Park with a 2-0 victory, a clean sheet and renewed confidence.
