- OU football practice observations: Running back room led by Lloyd Avant, Xavier Robinson
With the first day of media observation of the Sooners ' fall camp in the books, the biggest takeaway is from the tailbacks.
Friday, the media watched roughly 30 minutes of Oklahoma football 's third day of practice and there were a slew of storylines typically from the offense.
Running Backs
The running backs were led by Colorado State transfer Lloyd Avant in all drills, followed by junior running back Xavier Robinson . This is not surprising as OU running back coach Deland McCullough said Tuesday that Avant would be 'the first one out there' if the Sooners had a game this week.
The Sooners' 2025 starter Tory Blaylock was not seen at practice Friday as he's rehabbing from a cleanup procedure in the offseason that had him out for most of the spring.
Robinson also missed time in the spring and missed the spring game, but appeared to be healthy for Friday's practice.
In the drills, the order went:
| Lloyd Avant
Xavier Robinson
Andy Bass
Gabe Sawchuk
Jonathan Hatton Jr.
DeZephen Walker
Ben McCreary
Trell Harris / wide receiver update
One of the Sooners' coveted transfer portal pickups appears to be close to returning to full health.
Trell Harris, a wide receiver transfer from Virginia , was seen in uniform and went through a few individual drills, but at half-speed. During the final 15-20 minutes of the media viewing, Harris was seen off to the side, away from team drills with Ivan Carreon and Mackenzie Alleyne.
Last month at SEC Media Days, OU coach Brent Venables said Harris was 'close' to fully returning after undergoing a cleanup procedure on his knee that kept him out of the spring and summer.
DNPs at practice
There were a few players that didn't participate in the media viewing of Friday's practice.
Along with the aforementioned Blaylock not seen at practice, six players were suited out for stretches, but left the field once drills began.
A handful of freshmen exited practice, including wide receiver Daniel Odom, linebacker Jacob Curry, linebacker Beau Jandreau and linebacker Kristian Moore, who was seen with a crutch.
Offensive tackle Daniel Akinkunmi was with the group that exited along with linebacker Taylor Heim.
