The Indiana Pacers are off to a tough start this season, starting the year with a record of 2-5 so far.
Indiana has now lost four straight games , seeing all the momentum that the team entered the year with be taken away. The season is still very early, but the Pacers don't want to fall too far behind the eight ball in the standings.
Part of the struggles this year has been due to the Pacers losing star guard Tyrese Haliburton to injury, limiting what the team can do on the court. Haliburton suffered a hamstring injury, and he will now be out for a few weeks to deal with it.
But hamstring injuries can be a tricky to overcome, and the last thing that Indiana wants to do is rush him back. Haliburton will be given all the time that he needs to fully heal from the issue before he gets back on the court.
Indiana may look to address the roster issues going forward, especially in the backcourt with the injury to Haliburton. Even when Haliburton returns, the Pacers could look to bring in more depth to help take some of the burden off the star guard.
One name that could be interesting for the Pacers to consider is veteran guard Isaiah Collier. Collier, now with the Utah Jazz, just had his team option for the 2027-28 season declined.
This will make him an unrestricted free agent, and Utah may elect to trade him before he can hit the market. Collier could be an intriguing name for the Pacers to consider, and he was mentioned as a possible trade target for Indiana by insider Alex Golden.
So far this season, Collier has seen his minutes dwindle down from where they were a year ago with the Jazz. Collier had averaged 25.7 minutes per game last season in Utah, but this year, albeit in a small sample size, he is down to just 18.5 per game.
Last season. Collier averaged 11.7 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game, while shooting 49.5 percent from the field. Collier could be a good fit for the Pacers, giving this team more depth in the backcourt for the rest of the season.
Indiana's front office will have some big decisions to make over the next few weeks, looking to bolster the roster. But Collier could be a good fit, especially with him being a free agent next summer, giving the Pacers some financial flexibility with his services.
