- Packers add 195-pound defensive back to create options at cornerback and safety
The Packers are keeping their options open in the secondary.
While Green Bay 's starting safety duo of All-Pro Xavier McKinney and rising star Evan Williams is among the more balanced in the NFL , the Packers' cornerback room leaves much to be desired.
It seems general manager Brian Gutekunst, the coaching staff, and the Packers are trying to bolster the depth in the defensive backfield.

Green Bay Packers Coach Matt LaFleur, left, talks with General Manager Brian Gutekunst during practice on July 25, 2025, at Ray Nitschke Field in Ashwaubenon, Wis.
This week, the Packers signed defensive back Kahlef Hailassie to the practice squad.
Hailassie, six-foot-one and 195 pounds, has appeared in 10 career games across two seasons with the Cleveland Browns .
While Hailassie did not play last season, he has produced eight total tackles, one tackle for loss, and one pass breakup during the 2023 and 2024 seasons in Cleveland.
To make room for Hailassie on the practice squad, the Packers released rookie safety Murvin Kenion III from the practice squad.
