The Green Bay Packers were back in front of fans for training camp practice on Monday, Aug. 10.

After having a closed practice on Sunday, Aug. 9, inside the Don Hutson Center, the team returned outdoors to Ray Nitschke Field for the first of two consecutive practices open to fans.

And these practices are leading up to the Packers' first preseason game with a matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers set for Thursday, Aug. 13.

Before then, position battles continued at practice, while injuries to two of the team's wide receivers kept them on the sidelines once again.

The Journal Sentinel and Green Bay Press Gazette reporters provided updates throughout practice of all the top moments and storylines.

Check out a recap for the latest from Ray Nitschke Field:

Jaylin Simpson ends practice with interception on Kyron Drones

01:40 PM ET, August 10 2026, Tom Silverstein

Practice ends on cornerback Jaylin Simpson interception of Kyron Drones at the goal line.

It may have been a 99-yard pick-six touchdown return in a game.

Drones is an undrafted rookie free agent the Packers signed in May out of Virginia Tech.

He's likely competing for a practice squad spot and should get reps in the preseason to see what he can do in real-game action.

Iowa State offensive lineman Dylan Barrett, who also played at Wisconsin, is one of several undrafted free agents the Green Bay Packers are signing following the 2026 NFL Draft.

Defensive pass rush having way with offensive line

01:37 PM ET, August 10 2026, Tom Silverstein

The offense is completing some passes but on a good number of the plays the pass rush would have gotten to the quarterback.

There has been pressure all day from different spots, some of it blitzing, some of it not.

Either it's a great day for the defense or a cruddy one for the pass protection.

Rookie Brandon Cisse has perfect coverage on one play, but then allows a touchdown on the next

01:00 PM ET, August 10 2026, Ryan Wood and Tom Silverstein

Jordan Love targets Christian Watson in a deep out to left sideline, and there's perfect coverage from Brandon Cisse, who breaks up the pass.

The rookie is continuing to have a strong camp.

On the very next play, Cisse gave too much room to receiver Savion Williams and allowed a 16-yard reception on third and 10. Sometimes you get the bar and sometimes the bar gets you.

Expect many blitz packages in Jonathan Gannon's defense

12:58 PM ET, August 10 2026, Tom Silverstein

Defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon is showing a lot of blitz looks in a move-the-ball period.

He'll mug up the linebackers and press the corners. A couple of times he brought heavy pressure, a couple of times he backed off quarterback Jordan Love, who deciphered one blitz with a hard count.

When slot corner Kitan Oladapo backed out too soon, Love changed the call and threw the ball to Skyy Moore for a first down - right where Oladapo had vacated.

Do we have a competition at cornerback?

12:54 PM ET, August 10 2026, Ryan Wood and Christopher Kuhagen

Two straight days now of a three-man rotation at the perimeter cornerback spot with Keisean Nixon , Brandon Cisse and Benjamin St-Juste sharing first-team reps.

We might have a competition brewing.

Nixon, 29, is entering his fifth year with the Packers and eighth overall in the NFL. He's coming off his first Pro Bowl season in 2025.

Cisse and St-Juste are newcomers but both are making an early splash in training camp.

Cisse was the Packers' first pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, selected in the second round out of South Carolina.

The veteran St-Juste, who turns 29 years old on Sept. 8, signed as a free agent with the Packers in the offseason. He's entering his sixth NFL season, with prior stops in Washington and the Los Angeles Chargers .

12:41 PM ET, August 10 2026, Ryan Wood and Christopher Kuhagen

Packers rookie Dani Dennis-Sutton forces Jordan Love into a throwaway. Would've been a sack.

The Packers picked Dennis-Sutton in the fourth round of (120th overall pick) in this past year's draft.

He played four years at Penn State and has been seeking advice from Packers All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons, also a Penn State alum.

Christian Watson continues to show off speed during training camp

12:36 PM ET, August 10 2026, Ryan Wood

Christian Watson beats rookie cornerback Brandon Cisse on a crosser and would have taken it to the end zone from about 60 yards.

Watson's speed has flashed throughout camp, especially after the catch on those crossing routes.

Bo Melton has catch of the day on a 60-yard reception from Jordan Love

12:34 PM ET, August 10 2026, Ryan Wood and Christopher Kuhagen

Last summer, Bo Melton was playing defense as he was moved to cornerback amid a crowded wide receiving group.

This year, he's back at wide receiver.

And he's there to stay.

Melton sent a jolt into the Ray Nitschke Field stands, skying to catch a go ball from Jordan Love over Keisean Nixon for about 60 yards.

He went up over Nixon, who had trail coverage, and came down with it. Melton should be getting more reps with Jayden Reed and Matthew Golden out with injuries.

The experiment of moving Melton to defense failed last year with head coach Matt LaFleur ultimately moving him back to offense during the season.

Anthony Belton struggling to handle the defensive pressure

12:23 PM ET, August 10 2026, Tom Silverstein

In 1 on 1 pass rush drills, defensive end Lukas Van Ness was on fire and Anthony Belton wasn't.

Van Ness ripped through both Jordan Morgan and Belton with speed moves, leaving both in the dust.

Belton, a 2025 second-round pick by the Packers, also lost to second-year defensive tackle Barryn Sorrell and defensive tackle Brenton Cox playing right tackle.

Rookie Jager Burton shut down defensive tackle Warren Brinson on three straight reps and rookie free agent Dillon Wade continues to impress with his strength and ability to anchor against bull rushes.

Watch Tucker Kraft at training camp

12:18 PM ET, August 10 2026, Ryan Wood and Christopher Kuhagen

For the second straight day, Tucker Kraft is practicing and finding his rhythm with Jordan Love.

Kraft didn't participate in the Family Night practice last Friday night, Aug. 7, as he continues to work his way back from the ACL injury that kept him out nine months.

But he returned for Sunday's closed practice.

Kraft doesn't expect to participate in the preseason games this month but should be a full-go for the regular season opener on Sept. 13.

Packers injuries at training camp

12:14 PM ET, August 10 2026, Ryan Wood and Christopher Kuhagen

This isn't a good sign.

Safety Javon Bullard is in the rehab group, wearing a walking boot on his right foot.

Minutes earlier, head coach Matt LaFleur had been singing the praises of the third-year safety.

The wide receiver room is also battling through some injuries.

Jayden Reed (ankle) and Matthew Golden (toe) also missing their second straight practice.

Reed missed a large portion of the 2025 season after breaking his collarbone in a Week 2 game. Reed also suffered the foot injury early in training camp last year and went on to miss most of camp while wearing a walking boot. He ended up having surgery on his foot at the same time of his procedure on his collarbone.

Golden, primed for a breakout second year, also battled through multiple injuries during his rookie campaign in 2025.

We'll be closely monitoring their new injuries this week and the severity of them.

Edgerrin Cooper returns to practice

12:05 PM ET, August 10 2026, Ryan Wood and Christopher Kuhagen

Edgerrin Cooper has returned to practice after missing Sunday's closed session with a foot injury.

Cooper, a former second round pick, is in his third season with the Packers.

His 118 tackles last season were second on the team, only behind Quay Walker , who departed in free agency. Cooper had two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery in 16 games.

Matt LaFleur high on Javon Bullard

11:59 AM ET, August 10 2026, Ryan Wood and Christopher Kuhagen

Before practice, Packers coach Matt LaFleur highlighted the play of safety Javon Bullard.

"He's a dog, man," LaFleur said. "You talk about a guy who plays with the right mentality, the right play style, what we want to be about. It's been cool to see his evolution."

Bullard, a former second-round pick and still only 23 years old, is entering his third season with the Packers.

The Georgia product turns 24 a week before the season begins on Sept. 5.

Bullard has played in 32 games over his first two seasons in the NFL, with 18 starts. He played in every game last season.

Matt LaFleur on his approach to playing starters in the preseason

11:55 AM ET, August 10 2026, Ryan Wood

The Packers' preseason opener is quickly approaching in a few days. Will the starters play in that game and throughout the preseason?

Here's what head coach Matt LaFleur said prior to practice on Aug. 10:

On playing starters in preseason: "My experience here is when we play in the preseason, we've been better earlier in the season."

With the Packers opening the 2026 season against an NFC North opponent, the Minnesota Vikings , it increases the urgency to start well.

LaFleur says he also has data supporting playing starters in preseason, saying if players hit certain threshold they are three times more likely to avoid injuries in regular season. LaFleur says threshold is 30 preseason snaps plus one joint practice.

The eighth-year head coach says he's more likely to hold players out of preseason finale against Arizona Cardinals on Aug. 28 because the Packers have a joint practice that week. That's not the case for the opener vs. Steelers or next week at the Denver Broncos .
