The Los Angeles Dodgers have continued to show their dominance for another season in the National League West, but there is a team right behind them. The San Diego Padres have been playing some good baseball this season, and they're currently 28-18, sitting in the No.2 seed in the NL West.
MLB insider Ken Rosenthal couldn't pass up the moment to talk about how good the Padres have been, and he thinks they're one of the best teams in the NL.
"They're one of the most amazing stories in baseball right now," Rosenthal said on Foul Territory TV. "Look at the way the season has evolved for them. If you had told me on opening day that Nick Pivetta would go down, as well as missing Yu Darvish and Joe Musgrove , that Manny Machado and Jackson Merrill would have OPS barely above .600, that Fernando Tatis Jr. would have no home runs. All of this about a quarter of the way into the season, what would you have thought?
"They are one of the best teams in the National League… Their one grade strength is their bullpen. The backend has protected leads like basically no other team. The Padres are 19-2 leading after six innings, 20-1 after leading in seven innings and 21-0 leading after eight. If they get a lead, they're winning the game. That's what the Dodgers are going to have to contend with; that's what every team is going to have to contend with as they have so far. If you don't get the lead early, you're in a lot of trouble."
The Padres did deal with a lot to start the season, but they've been able to stay resilient and be amongst some of the top teams in the league. If they can keep up this level of play, it's going to be hard to beat them as the season continues.
