The Carolina Panthers may be dealing with quite a setback to their blindside as they head into their offseason.
Starting left tackle Ikem Ekwonu made an early exit from Saturday's wild-card round matchup against the Los Angeles Rams due to a knee injury. The former first-round pick was carted off during the game's second drive, and would not return to the eventual 34-31 loss .
Head coach Dave Canales was asked about Ekwonu's status following the defeat.
"Ickey's got a knee injury," Canales told reporters. "We'll give you more of an update. They gotta do all the MRIs and all that stuff. But I think it's a significant injury, and something that we'll have to go into the offseason with."
Backup swing tackle Yosh Nijman would replace Ekwonu for the contest's remaining 55 minutes.
Ekwonu is set to enter the 2026 campaign on his fifth-year team option.
