The legacy of former Carolina Panthers linebacker Luke Kuechly is going exactly where it belongs.
As announced during NFL Honors on Thursday night, Kuechly has been voted in as a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame's 2026 class. The Panthers franchise great, who was in his second year of eligibility, will be the second-youngest player ever inducted into the hall.
Carolina selected Kuechly—a two-time All-American and winner of the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Jack Lambert Trophy, Lott Trophy, Butkus Award and Lombardi Award at Boston College—with the ninth overall pick of the 2012 NFL Draft. He'd keep to his decorated play right away in the pros, winning the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year (2012) and AP Defensive Player of the Year (2013) in his first two NFL seasons—a feat that was previously accomplished only by former New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor (1981 and 1982).
His accolades wouldn't stop there—as Kuechly collected five first-team All-Pro nods, two second-team All-Pro nods and seven Pro Bowl selections over his eight campaigns. He also played an integral part in the most successful run in franchise history, helping the Panthers to three straight NFC South titles from 2013 to 2015 as well as their second-ever Super Bowl appearance.
Unfortunately, Kuechly's stellar tenure would be cut short following the 2019 season due to the effects of his numerous concussions. He announced his retirement on Jan. 14, 2020, at the age of 28.
He has since rejoined the organization in multiple roles—including as a pro scout in 2020 and 2021 and, more recently, as a color commentator on the Panthers' official radio broadcast team.
Kuechly will be enshrined alongside quarterback Drew Brees , running back Roger Craig, wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald and kicker Adam Vinatieri this summer.
