It turns out that the draft prospect who " doesn't like to watch football " is actually pretty good at football.
As announced during NFL Honors on Thursday night, Carolina Panthers wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan is the recipient of 2025 AP Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. The 22-year-old beat out the field of New Orleans Saints quarterback Tyler Shough , New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart , New England Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson and Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Emeka Egbuka .
The Panthers selected McMillan, a 2024 consensus All-American at the University of Arizona, with the eighth overall pick of the 2025 NFL Draft. He'd go on to total 70 catches, 1,014 receiving yards (a rookie franchise record) and seven touchdowns over 17 regular-season games.
McMillan quickly became the No. 1 option in Carolina's passing attack, amassing 122 targets (tied for 14th-most in the NFL) in his first pro campaign. His contributions helped push the Panthers to their first playoff berth since 2017 and their first NFC South title since 2015.
He is now the second Panthers player to be named the AP Offensive Rookie of Year, joining quarterback Cam Newton (2011).
