"Darius has shown the ability to play both spots inside," Vrabel said.
While also mentioning newly signed tight end Cameron Latu , Vrabel explained Muasau and Latu as "guys that have played NFL games, meaningful football games."
Muasau played in 12 games last season as a member of the New York Giants and started in 11. He recorded a sack, three tackles for loss, a quarterback hit and a pass breakup last season while also maintaining a substantial role on special teams. Muasau had his share of moments last season for the Giants and produced in his second season in the league.
The 25-year-old Muasau will now serve as the Patriots ' backup linebacker behind Christian Elliss and Robert Spillane . This comes after the team decided to move forward with K.J. Britt on the practice squad, as opposed to the reserve role that Muasau now occupies.
