The Patriots have won two straight after beating the Raiders during a Week 5 matchup, 45-17. Not only did New England decimate Las Vegas on the field, but off it, too.
Adam Vinatieri, one of the greatest kickers in league history, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year. Vinatieri was honored by the Patriots, his former team, during a halftime ceremony, and his speech was very memorable.
Vinatieri helped the Patriots win various Super Bowl trophies. That wasn't all he was known for. During the 2001-02 playoffs, Vinatieri blasted a game-tying 45-yard field goal against the then-Oakland Raiders through the snow. Then, in overtime, Vinatieri sent New England to the next round with a 23-yard field goal.
The "Tuck Rule" game lives on in NFL history. Speaking to Patriots fans at the ceremony, Vinatieri, the NFL's all-time leader in points scored, reminded Raiders fans in attendance of that game.
"Seeing those Raider jerseys takes me way back. Takes me back to that snowy night when we beat Oakland to win Super Bowl 36. Then years later, I was fortunate to be the all-time leading scorer, and we did that in Oakland as well," Vinatieri said.
Then, Vinatieri decided to poke fun at the current Raiders.
Tom Brady, the Patriots' former quarterback who led the team to multiple Super Bowl wins, is a minority owner of the Raiders. Vinatieri used that in his speech, which Patriots fans at Gillette Stadium ate up.
"At the time, I thought we owned the Raiders. And you know what? Thanks to Tom (Brady), we actually do," said Vinatieri.
