Last season, he worked as a personnel assistant for the Commanders and made a good enough impression to get promoted back to a position coach, after initially being moved to an offensive assistant.
Welker was a legendary Patriots receiver from 2007-2011.
He caught 672 passes for 7,459 yards and 37 touchdowns over 93 games. This included the historic 2007 season that saw him tally 112 receptions on 145 targets for 1,175 yards and eight touchdowns. Welker surpassed the 100-reception and 1,000-yard marks in five of his six seasons with New England .
He will now have an opportunity to continue coaching up the next generation of NFL players looking to make their own mark on the game.
