Pau Gasol on Victor Wembanyama: Wemby is crucial when he's able, both defensively and offensively, to be closer to the basket and use his wingspan to disrupt the game and dominate it, right? Because no matter how much he can shoot well from the outside, in the end, where he's really decisive is inside the paint when they throw him the ball and he gets offensive rebounds… I think that's where we've seen, I think those are also his best statistical games, right? Then, if he can complement that with two, three, or four three-pointers, even better.

Victor Wembanyama went off to France after the NBA Finals, signing his contract extension there as he began his offseason training. He then returned to Texas and participated in workouts at Fox's home gym, with Harris and Barnes included. Wembanyama also spent more time working with Hakeem Olajuwon, who helped him build out his post game last summer . One of Wembanyama's key vulnerabilities in the later stages of the postseason was his ability to create his own shot consistently. Throughout the season, he was able to play through his teammates for the most part, serving as a fulcrum for the offense as a screener or lurking near the hoop. — 8/6/2026 New York Times

Wembanyama had a blood clot that ended his season prematurely a year ago. What advice would you give him on hoping it becomes a one-time issue? Chris Bosh: Take your medicine. Make sure that he's staying on top of his regimen to make sure that doesn't happen again because it only takes one more time. It happened one more time for me, it happened twice, and I couldn't play anymore . So I guess with him, just making sure he does everything necessary to keep that blood as thin as possible and take care of that body off the court. — 8/3/2026 HoopsHype

NBA Courtside: Rich Paul on why LeBron didn't choose the Spurs: "It's similar to the Knicks these are two teams that finished last two teams in the season. Spurs were the runner up. And when you have a guy like Wemby you have to respect his growth, his position on the Spurs. It's not easy LeBron James shows up it just doesn't matter who you are."
