Former Penn State running back Kaytron Allen was released by the Washington Commanders last week. He was taken in the sixth round by the franchise just six months ago but was an awkward scheme fit and didn't see the field much. Allen only logged 12 carries for 41 yards in his four games with the Commanders .
They like quicker, shiftier running backs who can get out into space or have production in the passing game. But the Nittany Lions ' all-time rushing leader is more of a downhill power back who can't do much in the passing game, so Washington decided to move on after just a month's worth of games.
It isn't often that a drafted rookie becomes available on the waiver wire, so the Miami Dolphins jumped at the opportunity to pick Allen up. They claimed him on waivers last weekend, likely as insurance for the running back room after De'Von Achane went down with a season-ending injury.
The Dolphins have a crowded, but unestablished group of halfbacks, so Allen has a chance to make a name for himself in Miami. And as an added bonus, he'll be joining a team with no expectations that will allow him the time to develop and make mistakes without fear of repercussions.
Penn State fans know exactly how talented Allen is from his time in college, and it feels like only a matter of time before he proves it in the pros as well.
