Everybody who talks about Penn State and Drew Allar seems to have one common consensus: Allar didn't get the opportunity that he deserved with the Nittany Lions, and a lot of that was blamed on James Franklin.
Whether all of us want to blame the system he put around him, the talent, the lack of wide receiver options, or anything else, it always felt like Allar had a lot more in the tank and wasn't able to show that.
In Franklin's defense, there were also times when Allar wasn't that great, and as a result, Penn State's offense had to change things up a bit. It was unfortunate how everything played out, but it always felt like there was a lot of meat left on the bone, and the Nittany Lions couldn't figure that out.
That's why I think it's important to hear someone speak about what Allar went through during his time in college. He still has a lot to figure out, but he takes care of the football, makes good decisions, and, with his big arm, has a chance to be a dude one day.
"I liked him coming out… I think he understands the importance of ball security. He won a lot of football games at Penn State despite some challenges around him… I think he's got really good arm talent. I think there's a lot of upside there. I think, you know, just processing and playing within the system is going to take some time…
"But I love the fact that he takes care of the football. He makes good decisions. He can push the ball down the field. I think he's got, you know, [a] really good arm, good vision," Rich Gannon said , per Steelers Nation.
I don't think it's crazy to say that Allar is this type of guy. Again, that doesn't mean that he's going to find a ton of success in the NFL or be a superstar one day, but if we're going based strictly off tools, he has everything in his backpack to be a guy.
It's tough to blame everything on Franklin, but there are certainly ways to look at what he did and be a bit upset.
