A pair of Chicago Cubs players took home Gold Glove awards on Sunday night.
Rawlings officially announced this year's Gold Glove winners. Five different Cubs players were listed as finalists for this prestigious award, including Ian Happ (left field), Pete Crow-Armstrong (center field), Seiya Suzuki (right field), Dansby Swanson (shortstop), and Alex Bregman (third base).
Although the Cubs had five finalists, only two players ended up winning a Gold Glove. Crow-Armstrong won his second straight following an incredible defensive season in center field, while Bregman won his second Gold Glove at the hot corner.
Both Crow-Armstrong and Bregman were almost locks to win their second Gold Glove awards. Both were clear favorites at their respective positions, and it would have been a major shock if they hadn't come away with a Gold Glove this year.
Crow-Armstrong was arguably the best defender in all of baseball this past season. He ranked first in Fielding Run Value (26), Outs Above Average (26), Runs Prevented (23), and four- and five-star catches combined (22). The Cubs center fielder also recently won the Fielding Bible Defensive Player of the Year Award.
Bregman was one of the best defensive third basemen throughout the regular season. He ranked first in defensive runs saved (15), tied for first in Fielding Run Value (7), second in Outs Above Average (9), and second in Runs Prevented (7) at the position. With Manny Machado not named an NL finalist, it was rather clear that the Cubs infielder would win it.
Crow-Armstrong and Bregman are the only two Cubs players to win the Gold Glove award this year. Happ, Swanson, and Suzuki all came up just short of winning this award. Happ was attempting to win his fifth straight, Swanson was looking to win his first since 2023, and Suzuki was trying to win his first.
None of those three players did enough to join Crow-Armstrong and Bregman among the 2026 Gold Glove winners.
Jackson Chourio earned the National League Gold Glove over Happ in left field after a strong all-around defensive campaign. Chourio led all National League outfielders in Fielding Run Value (8), Outs Above Average (7), Runs Prevented (6), and defensive runs saved (13).
Geraldo Perdomo won the National League Gold Glove over Swanson for his play at shortstop. Perdomo and Swanson finished with the same exact Outs Above Average (16) and Runs Prevented (12), but the Diamondbacks shortstop had a better Fielding Run Value (13).
Corbin Carroll beat out Suzuki for the National League Gold Glove in right field. This was likely a super close one between two above-average defenders, but Carroll's better Outs Above Average (10) and Runs Prevented (9) could have been the difference.
Crow-Armstrong and Bregman winning the Gold Glove means both are in the running to receive the Platinum Glove. Fans can vote for the winner. Voting ends on Thursday, November 5, at 11:59 p.m. EST.
