Whether or not the Philadelphia Eagles will be buyers or sellers prior to the NFL trade deadline this season remains to be seen. How the next few weeks play out will go a long way towards determining that.
But, regardless of that, they're being urged to trade one particular player to an AFC Contender.
Eagles Urged to Trade Cornerback Kelee Ringo to Buffalo Bills
Alex Kay of Bleacher Report recently suggested that the Eagles should trade fourth-year cornerback Kelee Ringo to the Buffalo Bills, who are in need of some help in the secondary.
Ringo, who has not been a factor for Philadelphia this season, is on the last year of his current contract with the Eagles, and they're unlikely to re-sign him in free agency. So, Kay argues it would be prudent for the organization to get some value back for him, as opposed to losing him for nothing over the offseason.
"With Ringo playing out the final year of his rookie deal and unlikely to stick around the City of Brotherly Love beyond this trying season, dealing him outside of the NFC for a late-round pick would be a shrewd move for a reeling Eagles side that is falling out of contention," Kay wrote.
"The 6'2″, 207-pound corner could benefit from a change of scenery and would get every opportunity to reach his ceiling in a Buffalo secondary that has become downright desperate for capable defenders."
If the Eagles could actually get some draft capital in exchange for Ringo, it's certainly something they should consider, regardless of it that's from Buffalo or another team. After playing a career-high 28 percent of all defensive snaps for Philadelphia last season, Ringo hasn't played a single defensive snap for the team so far this season. It's clear that he's not part of Philly's long-term plans, so moving on and recouping some value would be wise.
Carolina Panthers, Detroit Lions Also Linked to Kelee Ringo
The Bills aren't the only team that has been linked to Ringo. Earlier this month, Jordan Dajani of CBS Sports named both the Carolina Panthers and Detroit Lions as potential landing spots for Ringo, should the Eagles try to trade him.
"Kelee Ringo needs a change of scenery and is in the final year of his rookie deal. The former fourth-round pick out of Georgia has the physical makeup you want at 6-foot-2, 207 pounds," Dajani wrote.
"He's started in just eight of 55 career games played with the Eagles, and he has played only on special teams this season. However, there are multiple teams out there that need cornerbacks right now to come in and contribute immediately."
It remains to be seen if the Eagles will indeed make a move involving Ringo, who they drafted in the fourth round (105th overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft. It's certainly something they should try to do if the opportunity presents itself.
