Philadelphia Phillies star Bryce Harper is open to MLB ownership someday , according to Stephen J. Nesbitt and Zack Meisel of The Athletic. The Athletic article states that Harper would like to own part of an MLB team down the road and manage its baseball operations. Harper wants his Phillies teammate, Kyle Schwarber , to be the manager of the team he becomes a part owner of someday.
"I was messing with him about that. I'm like, 'Dude, you're going to be the best manager,'" Harper said, via The Athletic. "If I ever own a team, you're going to manage my team."
Harper is obviously focused on playing for the Phillies right now. At 33 years old, Harper is still playing at a high level . Meanwhile, Schwarber is also playing well at 33 years old.
Schwarber's 30 home runs and .575 slugging percentage both lead the league. As for Harper, he has a .908 OPS and 20 long balls. Philadelphia's lineup has endured ups and downs overall, but the left-handed sluggers are doing more than enough to lead the way. The Phillies are currently in second place in the National League East standings, as they hold a 49-38 record as of this story's writing.
While he is likely not all that close to retirement, Harper has clearly thought about life after baseball. Could his plans change? Sure, but at the moment he is seemingly open to the idea of MLB ownership someday. However, it remains to be seen if Schwarber will manage the ball club Harper becomes a part owner of.
