Kyle Schwarber may be the most powerful and explosive home run hitter in Major League Baseball. While Shohei Ohtani , Aaron Judge and Cal Raleigh can all make arguments, the Phillies' Schwarber is the player who can step up to the plate and turn any pitch around send it 450 feet or more.
That's just what he did Saturday night as the Phillies hosted the New York Mets. Schwarber came into the game with a Major League-leading 25 home runs. However, when he stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the third inning against pitcher Freddy Peralta , he was ready to add to his home run total. Schwarber led off the inning and teed off on a 1-1 pitch from the Mets hurler and blasted it 456 feet to the upper deck at Citizens Bank Ballpark.
Phillies fans don't need any extra reason to celebrate when Schwarber blasts a ball over the fence, but the distance of the home run means that Phillies fans get a free beverage, courtesy of Baja Blast . The home run has to be over 420 feet to qualify, and that long home run certainly qualified.
If that wasn't enough, Schwarber hit a second home run later in the inning. The second blast — a three-run shot — was 457 feet. That home run came off Mets relief pitcher Cionel Perez . He would hit his third home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
In addition to Schwarber's three blasts, teammate Bryce Harper also hit for the cycle.
The Phillies built an 11-1 lead at the end of the third inning and stretched it to 13-1 by the end of the sixth inning.
