The Pittsburgh Pirates are entering into a crucial offseason that could determine a lot for this franchise.
After finishing last season with a record of 82-80, the Pirates will be looking to take another step further next year. Pittsburgh has a nice collection of talent on the roster, with a strong core in place for the future.

Despite not making the playoffs this past season, multiple members of the Pirates discussed their belief that this team could be special going forward. So, as the team enters the offseason, there is work to be done.
Pittsburgh does have a few crucial players entering free agency, but none are bigger than infielder Brandon Lowe. Lowe was a massive part of the Pirates' offensive attack this season, but there has been some skepticism about whether he will return ot not next year.
Much of this has been due to the Pirates' typical approach to free agency, with the front office not wanting to spend too much money each year. But given how important of a player Lowe was last season for Pittsburgh, the front office should do whatever it takes to retain the star.
In a new prediction from MLB analyst Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report , the Pirates are being predicted to retain Lowe on a short-term deal. This would be seen as a true win-now move for Pittsburgh, giving the team a better chance to win next season.

The importance of Lowe coming back next season is massive, and his presence in the lineup can't be overstated. The Pirates' front office has to find a way to get him to return, even if it means going against how the team has normally operated.
Lowe was an extremely important player in the lineup for Pittsburgh this year, giving the team a reliable presence each time at the plate. For the year, Lowe hit .260 with 35 home runs and 96 RBIs, while posting an OPS of .824.
In his first year with the Pirates, Lowe became a strong leader in the clubhouse, and losing him would likely hurt the team. Pittsburgh owes it to themselves and the fans to bring Lowe back, with the goal being to get into the playoffs in 2027.
Lowe has said that he would love to return, but it's just a matter of whether the Pirates' front office wants to play ball with him. There is no excuse for the Pirates to not bring Lowe back, especially after he was a catalyst for the team this past season.
