The Pittsburgh Pirates picked up the win on Wednesday, defeating the Seattle Mariners 11-1. They improved to 40-40 on the season, and sit three games back from a National League wild card spot.
However, the Pirates suffered a concerning development. During the game, first baseman Spencer Horwitz exited early due to left hamstring discomfort. The 28-year-old finished the night going 0-for-1 but drawing a walk.
It's been a solid season so far for the left-handed batter. He has accumulated 36 runs scored, 69 hits, 10 home runs, 33 RBIs and 40 walks in 246 at-bats. Horwitz is also slashing .280/.386/.455 with a .841 OPS.

Unfortunately, he is now set to miss some time. Before wrapping up their three-game series against the Mariners on Thursday, Kevin Gorman of Tribune-Review Sports reported that the Pirates are placing Horwitz on the injured list.
"IF Jack Brannigan has a locker in the Pirates clubhouse," Gorman wrote. "He's expected to be activated today, as 1B Spencer Horwitz (hamstring) will go on the 10-day IL. Konnor Griffin also is at PNC Park but that was the plan for him to have a day off after rehab start at Double-A Altoona."
Despite recalling Brannigan, Pittsburgh is relying on Ryan O'Hearn to take over duties at first. He is the starting first baseman for Thursday's matchup against Seattle. His 24 appearances at the spot this season are the second most behind Horwitz (68).
With Horwitz, set to miss time, though, the Pirates are going to be without one of their most productive pieces. He has the second-highest OPS for any qualified hitter on the team behind outfielder Bryan Reynolds (.890).
