The Pittsburgh Pirates have been one of the most active teams in terms of roster transactions, trades, and free agent signings over the last calendar year. Hopefully, that trend will continue heading into this offseason, too.
Perhaps Pittsburgh's recent small-scale move could be an indication of what's to come this winter.
The Pirates re-signed outfielder Kyler Fedko to a two-year Minor League deal on Saturday morning, per Colin Beazley of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette .
Pittsburgh initially signed Fedko to a Minor League contract on September 4, just three days after the Minnesota Twins designated the 27-year-old for assignment.

The 12th-round pick in the 2021 MLB Draft spent six years in the minor leagues before finally making his big-league debut with the Twins earlier in 2026. He only saw 16 at-bats during his first stint in the Majors, but did walk twice and even logged an RBI.
Fedko did have some more encouraging numbers at Triple-A last season, logging a .274/.362/.545 slash line with 17 doubles and 17 home runs. The right-hander's .907 OPS in 2026 was the highest of his career.
The Statcast numbers paint an even more favorable picture of Fedko's hitting profile. He ended up with a hard-hit rate of 43.2 percent and an average exit velocity of 88.6 mph, with strikeout and walk rates about league average.
Fedko could be a quality bench piece for the Pirates in the future if he can maintain one of those traits consistently at the big-league level.
When healthy, Fedko could give the Pirates some nice organizational depth at the outfield position. Plus, his right-handed bat is something that Pittsburgh desperately needs at the Major League level due to their struggles against left-handed pitching last regular season.
The key word there, though, is healthy, because that will be a battle for Fedko for at least the start of the 2027 season.
Fedko underwent surgery in August to repair a torn ACL. It's hard to see him being ready for Opening Day, assuming the first regular-season game is played on time in 2027.
That said, signing Fedko to the two-year deal doesn't put any pressure on him to return next season, though. He can take his time recovering and return to the field when he feels fully healthy.
In many ways, this is a win-win deal for both the player and the organization. The Pirates get outfield depth, and Fedko gets a somewhat long-term deal.
