Jonathon Cooper 's legal situation could stretch into training camp .
Following his two arrests in a one-week span, the Denver Broncos ' outside linebacker has had the various charges against him consolidated into a felony assault case, according to the Denver Post 's Luca Evans .

After his original arrest, Cooper had a jury trial scheduled for July 22-23, but that was eliminated after his second arrest. Cooper now has a disposition hearing set for July 24. As the Denver Post 's Parker Gabriel pointed out , a potential new trial date would not happen before the Broncos begin training camp. So if the case goes to trial, Cooper will likely miss the start of camp.
Cooper was excused from mandatory minicamp earlier this month following his second arrest. "The club is very much in tuned to the league office, local authorities here, and we've had several meetings," Denver coach Sean Payton said . "Clearly, from an ownership standpoint, head coach, organizationally… there's a bar that we have, and an expectation that we have, that's very high.
"We'll consider all of that as we continue to gather the information. That's really all I can tell you. I think it'll take a little bit of time, but we're continuing to go through that process, and we take it very seriously."
Payton's comments suggest that Cooper has an uncertain future with the club. Cooper could also face discipline from the NFL.
