The Pittsburgh Steelers will have several options at wide receiver this offseason.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have failed to add another talented player to their wide receiver room for the past two years, but they are certainly set up to finally do just that this offseason.
According to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero , the New England Patriots have informed former All-Pro wide receiver Stefon Diggs that they are releasing him after the start of the league year next week.
Diggs, 32, proved a lot of his doubters wrong in 2025, recording the seventh 1,000-yard season in his NFL career after a down season in 2024.
He played an important role in the Patriots offense while helping them reach Super Bowl LX with 85 catches for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns. He also recorded another 14 catches for 110 yards and a touchdown in the playoffs.

That is why Diggs' release may come as a surprise to some, especially after signing a three-year, $69 million deal with New England last offseason. However, he is saving the team a lot of salary cap space as his contract was about to rise from $10.5 million to $26.5 million.
Diggs will now have his choice of suitors on the open market, and it's safe to assume he will have several, given his experience and rise in production in 2025.
Only time will tell if the Steelers will be among those interested, but they have plenty of salary cap space and a massive need at the wide receiver position, with just three players under contract from last year's team: DK Metcalf , Pro Bowl special teamer Ben Skowronek and former third-round draft pick Roman Wilson , who finished the 2025 season with 12 catches and was a healthy scratch for most of the stretch run.
A fifth-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings , Diggs has recorded 942 catches for 11,504 yards and 74 touchdowns in his professional career.
